Thread: Some Light Reading

Otto starts to browses the stacks, taking an interest in a variety of subjects. Local History seems of prime importance at first but he eventually moves on to other areas.

"Good evening Otto." A voice from behind the nosferatu primogen speaks, a familiar voice that he knows very well. As Otto turns he'll see Calhoun standing there.

"You wanted to talk more, yes? Well... this seems like as good a place as any." He looks around at the stacks of knowledge. "We may not have much time left to speak, if things don't go well with our visitors. So... why don't we have a seat over there." He motions to a quiet corner for reading and will take a seat, waiting for his childer to join him.

Otto gives something of a start when his sire comes up behind him. He smiles though once he gains his composure "Ah, I didn't expect to see you here" he glances around at all the books "But I've had a few questions of late, and this seemed as good a place to look as any"

Otto joins his sire and smiles "It seems many are concerned about our visitors.... I figure they are here to help so doesn't do much good to worry about what you can't control... Still, I'm glad you found me, I got alot of stuff bouncing around in my head, and I was able to settle most of em down....." he gives a little nod "Well, enough of that.... I'm real curious about...well....that path thing I've heard a few people older people talk about"

Calhoun takes a seat, "Only thing to worry about is me not surviving the visit... they rarely let people like me walk away from this level of problem that I couldn't handle myself." He shrugs as if it's not something he wants to talk about.

"The path is a legendary road to enlightenment and power ... and some believe it is a road back to being human while others claim it could make us something more than what we are. It's not an easy road to walk, sacrifices need to be made in order to gain and grow but, for those willing and able... the rewards are great. The question is what are you looking for?"

Otto listens attentively, and though he isn't too cool with the idea of you getting killed over something he scarecly understands he seems to respect your desire not to talk about it further.

Now to the path. "I admit, at my core I'm mostly intersted in looking into this path thing as a means to making my life just a little more interesting, so much in our lives seems to revolve around one grab for power or another and I just don't get it... now I don't regret what happened, anymore then I can regret it raining or snowing...and heck, since I came back, their is a whole lot of new wizzer things to try, but I'm thinkng long term.... as I see it, I enjoy the here and now just fine, but in 10 or more years..well, I can't help but think maybe it would be good to looking back and seeing that I've not been turning my wheels doing the same ol' thing."

He considers some more "A whole lot of new stuff seems to be happening, and I would be lieing if I said I didn't want to know just a little bit more.... I kinda think that is something that got into my system since I met you since before..well I believed in hard work. Coming home, bathing off the grit and knowing that did a good days work. It just isn't like that now... some ways I think things are just a bit to comfortable for me, especially when I look at some of the others in the area.... heck, I admire JT Moguls ability to be in the hear and now...doesn't seem to waste a moment thinking about the next day... and me...well, I admire that...cause I think about tomorrow and I get this niggling feeling that there is something I aughta know. I can't really explain it better then that.....I actually didn't realize their was power to be had...heck, seems like if your wandering around looking for stuff, it would cut into your ability to focus on the more tangibles..."

Otto seems to realize he's gone off on a tangent and he comes back to the question "So I guess...when it comes down to it...part of me wants to continue something you started since I feel kinda responcible for taking you off what you were doing....but deeper then that...well I just gotta imagine there are answers to be had out there and if I can find em... then that is going to be wizzer, more then anything though... I want that feeling back..... looking back and thinking....I did a good days work.... and no matter what chair I sit in, or what I do for others...I just haven't had that feeling in along time....." he shakes his head "I find it funny that is what I miss most....but I do"

Calhoun arches an eyebrow, "So you're wanting me to tell you about the most sacred path to enlightenment and salvation that our kind can ever hope to achieve; not for power or for something spiritual or even the desire to become mortal again and regain what you lost... but because you're bored and want something to do?" Calhoun tilts his head to the side, skeptical thoughts seem to race across his gaze.

"Surely Otto, after everything you've seen in life ... there's something more that you want than to just keep busy? Something greater that you can't obtain on your own or by getting a job?"

Otto ponders some, thinking he probably is falling off the path before even stepping on it "ah...well, you put it like that......" a bit more hemming and hawwing later "Kinda my nature to want to get a thrill from time to time....not sure what I should say.... beating up others, either politically or physically, well, it just doesn't do it for me.... and I guess as I see it, most of my life....well, it's been defined by what I did for others, not so much for myself..... in the War, that time with the Car trouble that one fella had, and of course..... even the issues I had that put me to sleep for a while....guess as I see it, this path thing..well, it is the one thing I'm doing just for myself.... I guess it is a bit selfish of me........kinda like when you walk down a rail road track.....it comes together way down there, further then I can see...and most of the time, you walk down to the end you could see...and you find out it is just more of the same... but now that I think of it..... I kinda wanna walk down there.... cause maybe this time...it won't be the same.... I've been told I'm kinda sharp, but I never looked at myself as much of a thinker......" he shakes his head.

"I guess I can't say no to any of those things you said you could possible find...... enjoying a bottle of white lightening while dangling my feet over a bridge while the sun shines over head...well.....I gotta admit....it has it's appeals........ power.....seems like if you have that, there is a whole lot of work that goes along with it...so not really high on my list of things I'm searching for.....though I understand responcibility....I guess we're the same in that........" he pauses again "so..can it work, if I just want answers? and I suppose they aren't just answers, but answers to questions I don't even know enough to ask just yet..... If you think I'll be wasting time..trying to pursuit the path..well, I'll trust you...since you got a bunch more knowledge then I do, but.....as I see it, I got some time to use on what I want to use it on, and I can stand to wander down some train tracks for a while...just to see where they will lead....."

Otto seems finished, but then adds "you know if there is anything I can do for you I will..."

"There is..." He sighs, a bit of sadness in his eyes but conviction none the less. "I want to give you a gift Otto, I know the end is near for me... do you think, when the time comes, you could do anything I asked... no matter how terrible, even if my courage fails me?"

Otto considers "Well, courage isn't something I lack, though all I've ever been able to promise is to do the best I can... If it's in my power, and doesn't involve hurting folks, I can't see why I wouldn't do anything you asked" he says this as if he has heard this kind of speech in another life during his one trip across the ocean. He almost seems human as he speaks.
