Thread: In the Glow of the Heavens (Jan 1st, 4 am)

How did the man come to this location, huddled in his winter jacket against a cold he all to well felt. Not a cold of the flesh, but of the soul. The park was not his first choice of places to visit, no… he spent a few moments wandering the Zoo, where he could touch base with the animals he has gotten to know so well over the past months but within him the beast railed even as the comfortable habitats created to protect the animals were shown as prisons.

He left that place to search out humanity, in a place where it was viscously alive and unfettered within the strip club. Freedom to do what you want and be whom you want, for a price. Is there anything more human then pleasures derived from manipulating the flesh, the pulsing lust, the unwed mother making money any way she can for the children she loves…no too this place must be left behind. The beast stirred.

Next he walked the streets, pausing outside a soup kitchen, it’s doors barred at this time of night and contemplation cleansed him. These places where the hungry line up… and hunger stirred, the sad reality of people not having enough to eat some how more powerful in absence of any lines or more then a few huddled forms seeking what heat they can. But the other side… the soup kitchen is a place of destitution, but also one of giving. The nameless watcher thinks back, to the people who give, those who themselves do not have much, yet they give ….too late this evening is for him to make a difference here, the doors will open but not before he must seek shelter…. He moves on, giving away the cash from his wallet, hand outs they are, and do they really mean a thing, the twenties will due, but to the unlucky few he gives $100 bills… their windfall could just as quickly mean…. He does not think of such things he mearly shakes their hands and tells them “Happy New Year”, he moves on and in the end finds himself at the park.

It is late, and only a single car remains. Two kids out, protected by the New Year, stealing some time together…. The man goes un noticed and moves down the bank, the lake is big enough for many. He sits in contemplation, only a few short hours until dawn.

"I am no longer human" he says in a quiet voice.
