Consolatic (Attn: Any) Posted by Charlie on July 28, 2009
The coffeehouse is relatively quiet, only a few seem to have ventured in this evening to partake in one of the many richly-favored drinks. Those that have sit quietly reading or engaged in hushed polite conversations.
To Kalie -- who sat in a secluded corner reading a black bound, rather old looking, hard-covered book -- the haunting melodious tones drifting down from the establishment's PA system seemingly reached through the fog of time.
I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase
[Chorus:]
When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have
All of me
Held open in Kalie's hands is the black book -- its gold title almost faded away still lightly reads "Consolatic". Instead of reading, Kalie's eyes seem to peer emptily just above the pages. Her thoughts lost completely to the fragmented memories.
A few tables away Elise sat with her sketchbook, searching for inspiration as usual. Her eye fell on the solitary woman in her secluded corner. Taken with the feeling of loneliness she seemed to exude, Elise began to sketch.
Elise sketched faster, hoping the unknown woman didn't decide to leave before the sketch was finished. She had already decided that this sketch would be turned into a full fledged sculpture. Perhaps a bronze or antique brass. Definitly straight forward. Elise's usual abstract style would never fit this subject. It was not long before Elise was oblivious to everything else but the page before her and plans for the work to come.
As the song ends, as if realizing the need to "blend" she draws a deep breath and exhales slowly. She readjusts her seat and tosses her long black hair back out of her face. Returning her attention to the book she begins to read again. A hint of the loniness remains, but it is mostly replaced with a rather blankness.
Elise finished her sketch just as the woman took a breath. The suddeness of the movement caused the young woman to realize that she was likely dealing with another Kindred like herself. After taking a few moments to make notes about matierials and tools that she would need to turn her sketch into a complete sculpture, she arose from her table. After tucking an errant strand of hair back into the rainbow striped scarf that was serving as headband and adjusting her bright yellow sundress, Elise made her way over to the woman.
Kalie sensed the approach of another and finds herself looking up. Her eyes travel the woman from top to bottom and then travels back up to her eyes. "Hello."
Elise smiled before she spoke. "Hi. I saw you from over there." she said as she gestured to the table she had recently occupied. "Do you mind if I join you?"
Elise sat down, close enough to converse but far enough away not to feel threatening. "I'm sorry if I'm being a little presumptious, but I was sketching you just now and if it's all right with you I'd like to turn it into a sculpture."
