More than friends?

She walks into the building with her Ghoul Michael following close behind her. The receptionist greets them, and pushes the elevator button. Angelique asks Michael to stay in the lobby and tells him that she will call him if his assistance is needed. She steps onto the elevator and rides to the top floor, she had done this several times before but tonight it seemed to take forever to get to the top floor of the building.

When the elevator stops and the doors open, she steps into the office lobby and looks at the security guard.

"He's not expecting me."

The guard buttons his suit jacket as she arrives and stands promptly and opens the door. As she asked her question he says, "No, but I'm sure he'll be happy to see you just the same."

She closes her eyes a moment, then steps forward. She waits for the guard to open the door, and as he does she catches a glimpse of Evan on his couch. She stands there for a while, not moving. She starts to wonder why she even came. She starts to turn around till the guard speaks up.

"Lady Angelique to see you sir."

Evan sits on the couch quietly for a moment, watching a sitcom on the TV when the guard announces her. He stands up, revealing that he is only wearing a pair of gray sweatpants. Before he stands fully, he bends down to the coffee table in front of the couch and lifts his Father's Scottish Claymore from the table. He nod to Angelique as she enters but says nothing, walking over to the cabinet and putting the sword back where it belongs and locks the cabinet.

He then looks at her again and speaks in a quiet tone, "I didn't expect to see you here so soon."

Seeing him there brings back memories of the old days, the days when she had been his ghoul. Then seeing the sword she tenses, the last time she saw that sword was back when he had been forced to kill his childe and grand-childe. She tenses, just standing there looking at him, she does not move from the open doorway.

Evan looks at her expectantly but when she says nothing, his demeanor drops more. He turns to the bar and walks to its sink and runs some cold water and washes his face with it, then turns to look at her and says, "How bad of news is it?"

She slowly walks into the room, the door closing behind her. She opens her purse and pulls something out of it. She clutches it in her hand, puts the purse down, then walks over to him.

"I found this the other night. I wasn't sure if you would want it back or not."

She places the pouch down on the bar.

"That was sent to me from England along with a note telling me that you had committed suicide."

Evan looks at the pouch for a long time. His mind traveling back in time several hundred years in to the past. He reached out and felt the pouch, wondering what was inside it. At the same time though, he didn't want to know. It was the second time in only a few nights, his mind went back to the night he left France. He says nothing as he reflects on the past and looks from the pouch to her. He didn't know what to say, he was just at a complete loss for words.

She realizes that he must be thinking about the night he left, so she stands there a while before finally whispering the question that had been on her mind for so many years.

"Why?"

She waits just a few seconds then unleashes the feelings that had been burried inside of her since the first night she saw him in Lamar.

"Why did you leave? Why didn't you take me with you? You had promised me all the happiness in the world, then you took off without so much as a word."

She starts to yell at him in French now.

"How could you? I would have followed you anywhere! I was going to be your childe! You left me at the mercy of Philippe...I had to act as if I loved him. I had to bed him."

She falls to her knees and starts to cry.

Evan stands there listening to her tirade, taking in every word of blame and anger from her. His face is void of emotion and expression as she asks the questions that had been unanswered for centuries. When she falls to the floor he doesn't say anything for a long pause. He just stands there watching her break down.

Finally, after what seems like forever but was only a few passing seconds, he begins to answer, his voice just as emotionless and expressionless as his face, "Why? Why did I leave? I had no choice. Philippe made me leave. If I didn't leave he would've killed both of us. The Sheriff and Scourge followed me out of the ball room that night and followed me all the way to the borders of Philippe's domain. He seized everything that was mine, including you."

After he finishes speaking his face changes from the expressionless stone that it had been to the face of a man who had been burdened with regret for centuries. There would be no tears though. She had never seen him cry and never would. He sets his hand on her shoulder and gives it a squeeze and continues, "I looked for you after I left. I traveled all of Europe looking for you, hoping that you had been embraced, praying you had left his domain. I sent you letters. I sent servants that never returned, instead, their ashes were sent back to me. I did everything I could to contact you without being able to go into his domain. As soon as it stopped being his domain, I was there, but you weren't.......... I tried."
