Thread: An Introduction (ATTN Ash Winters)

Ash notices the sneer. "I don't have a clue who your sire was or what they were. To me it sounds like you were left behind by an Anarch who felt guilty, but not guilty enough to stick around and properly train you. Now that seems to be a responsibility I will have to take on and that isn't something I really have time for, but as head of the family it will fall to me. I also have to speak to the Prince of you and what am I to tell him. A young stray showed up on my door and claimed she is of my family, Of course I will take full responsibility for her actions, My Prince. " Ash's tone of voice doesn't show any real hint of anger, simple frustration at the situation. "We will need to verify your family for sure before you will be accepted into the clan. As I said before we have had to many try to use the Toreador as a hiding place because they felt we were easily infiltrated. That cost my family quite a bit of respect in this city when they were found out and I am not going to let that happen again. I hope you understand this isn't directed at you personally, but is something that will need to be taken care of before the family will fully embrace you as one of their own."

Ash opens the door of the library. "I have a quick test to try here and then will have to make a few calls about more conclusive tests for later. I want you to think of a song, any song you know the words to and I want you to sing them out loud until I tell you to stop. Then we are going to step into the Studio and I want to show you something." Ash will wait for Laurens to start singing then lead her out into the main studio and point to a particular sculpture and then waits to see what happens. (OOC: The sculpture is done with Crafts x4. The Toreador disadvantage is that Art of Performance, Crafts, or Expression of 3 or higher causes a Toreador to go into a sort of trance, they focus on the art to the exclusion of all around them unless they are physically in danger, until the piece is stopped or covered. Ash is waiting to see Laurens reaction to the piece. Does she stop singing in mid verse or just keep on singing?)

"I'm sorry to come as a poor relation. If I had known I would have waited longer and tried to learn more. Thanking you for testing me instead of just dismissing me. I will try not to be to much trouble." With that she launched into an out of tune rendition of 'The Song That Never Ends'. She was upset that her presence was going to cause problems, "But" she reasoned internally, "it's to late to go back now"

She followed him into the studio and looked in the direction he indicated.
"Yes it just goes on and on my frie-"

OH this was beautiful. From the smooth curve of the base to the subtle detail of the girls feather every bit was beautiful. She held her hands behind her back to avoid the faux pas of touching someone else's sculpture. OOOH but she wanted to. She wanted to caress the delicately detailed boots. She lusted after the perfectly carved ruffle. The rest of the world disappeared. She hadn't even noticed that she had moved closer to the sculpture.

Ash watched Laurens as she abruptly stopped singing. He imagined if she had been mortal he would have heard the catch of her breath. Watching her for a few minutes he covered the work with a cloth blocking it from her sight. The spell broken he turns to her, "Shall we go back into the study?"

Leading Laurens back Ash says, "That should be enough of a test, but I want better proof, which is not your fault. I will make some phone calls and see if we can get a definite answer at a later date. Until such time you are welcome in Old Town. You will be under my Accounting, meaning that your actions will be seen as my own, so don't do anything to screw up, please. I will speak with the prince at this Sundays gathering on your behalf to procure his permission for you to stay."

Ash motions for Laurens to sit in one of the leather chairs. "I am sorry for the abruptness and the testing. As I said there have been a few in the last several months that wanted to hide within the Roses. Now that most of the formality is out of the way, would you mind if I try to be a little more social?"

"I completely understand the need for testing. That sculpture was beautiful. I have no problem with being more social, but, if my actions reflect yours, there is something you should know. My art is not seen as acceptable by many." She looked a little chagrined as she unbuttoned the suite jacket to reveal the camisole she wore underneath, but she carried on with determination. "After I was changed I found that as a "creature of the night" I could make a better living as a "Lady of the night". I found I enjoyed it so much I made that I chose it for my art. I quickly found the need to cover more topics that just 'between the sheets. I consider my art sensual expression. For spending money I am a 'lady of negotiable virtue'. If you have an issue with this I can try to find another way to practice but, I may need help."

Ash chuckles, "How you choose to make your living is up to you. Those are not the actions I was speaking of though." Ash sobers as he speaks, "I am assuming that you are aware of the Masquerade and the traditions? Those actions that violate any of those are what I am speaking of. If you are not aware then we had better get started with your education quickly."

She smiled and gave a small nod.
" I know a little, really it's just enough to know that there is a lot I don't know. If I had known there would be a problem I would have tried to contact you from Hot Springs. As is I will try to keep a low profile. But I agree, education needs to happen quickly. I would like to get started as soon as we can. Do you have a book I can read or a class I can take? Most of my info comes from people whom I didn't want be around very much, and the internet, which is not to be trusted."
She delivered the last line with a joking smile.
