Thread: Keeping the Piece (att:Ash, any)

Ash answers the door, "Please come in."

"I have left your project where you left it. Is there anything I can get you before we get started?"

Ash leads Mackenzie to the workbench. Both of their projects are covered with damp towels to keep the clay from drying out. When he takes the towels off both projects are in the same state the last night they were together.

Mackenzie smiles and follows him into the workshop. She groans slightly at seeing her project uncovered. "You know, time away had me imagining it looking so much better." She shakes her head and smiles. "I don't think I need anything specifically...just more practice."

She looks at his project for a moment and then back at her piece. "Yes, more practice." She starts working the clay again, focusing on what Ash has taught her.

Ash sits to his work and looks at it. It has been weeks since he has sat at his bench just to create something. All the weeks of training for Brazil and solidifying his power base as Seneschal have taken all the time he would have had to work on the project before him.

He looks to Mackenzie and her eagerness to learn how to work the clay. He reaches towards her piece and says, "Make you hand look like what you want the sculpture to look like. Notice how the skin wrinkles, notice the lines in your palm, get a good mental image of that for the details will be more important than the position of each finger and such."

Mackenzie nods, listening to his words. She realizes that his pieces have not been worked either and frowns slightly. "The City has kept you busy, hasn't it." She continues to work as she talks. "I'm glad that I can come over and sculpt with you. As I said before, I find it relaxing. Hopefully you can relax a bit too." She smiles at him.

Ash smiles back a bit wistfully, "Yes, it has been hectic and this may be the last time I get to spend an evening with you. It has been a while since I just sat and worked the clay like this. It is cathartic." The picks up the wing from where it was and finishes forming it the way he wants it to look. Picking up a tool from the table he begins to carve out the feathers of the wing.

Mackenzie frowns as she works, stopping for a moment to look at Ash. "Yes, it may be. But I still hold out high hopes for us in Brazil. I will ensure you have a safe place to return to."

Ash smiles back, "I will hold you to that. Now, lets not talk about what might or might not happen. Lets concentrate on our work and enjoying each others company."

Ash looks to her piece, "Now that you have the fingers roughly where you want them," he hands her a tool, "carve away the tips to make them look more like an actual finger. Then roughly carve in the fingernails. It doesn't have to be perfect, just make it look like a fingernail for now."

Mackenzie smiles and nods at his statement. She listens to his instructions and starts to form the fingertips better and fingernails. She is excited to finish her first piece, but is content with just spending time with him. She forces all thoughts of Brazil out of her head and focuses solely on her piece and watching Ash work his.

Ash works quickly at the wing, turning out feather after feather with quick speed.

He looks over to Mackenzie, "Okay, now look at your knuckles. Notice the folds in your skin. Both inside and outside of the knuckle." Handing her another tool. "Cut the lines on the inside into the clay. Make rough cuts on the outside of the clay and then we will come back and work on them later."
