Thread: I need that book! (ATTN: Stan 4/22/10)

Stan sat there looking out the window. The lights off, only the city lights lit the room. The elders game was in full force and coming out into the public eye. The webs had been woven and the chaos was about to start, like none this city had ever known. The smile on his face told the truth of his feelings, the moment for everything to come to a head was approaching quickly, much faster than he had anticipated. His planes were bare at best, he had not figured another’s hand would push the hand of the clock so far ahead.
He ignored the knock at the door, his mind was racing through the unwritten laws that governed this society. He knew them well, he fought for them for years and his fist had been the will of those laws for years. Now, through an unfortunate event everything was going to be out on the table, so be it.
The sound of keys and the latch being turned quickly pulled the smile from his face. The cleaning crew new better then enter this room at this time of night. He sits in silence, waiting for the door to open, but hearing Maddalena’s voice makes him reconsider his words.
Turning in the chair to face her, his face is void of emotion and his smile cold.
“Yes my dear Szerelmen, I will always try to make time for you.”

She stopped just inside the door, closing it behind her slowly. The look on his face told her things had changed once again. His words were what she wanted to hear, but that smile, that was not her's. That smile was for other people. Unless she had done something beyond repair this time.

She moved to a chair and sat down without a word. She looked him over thinking that this conversation was definitely not going to be short and sweet as she had hoped. But then, nothing she hoped for ever happened. That was just the way her life was.

"I need advice on something that I have been considering. I have gotten the feeling recently that you have wanted me to be more independent, so that is what I strived for. I think I failed. So with this next step, I want your thoughts."

Stan’s head tilts to the side, his face distorting a slight bet as if surprised. A slight chuckle escapes his lips, one that she rarely hears.
“I think you have been more successful than you realize. You have proven yourself in more eyes than mine, though I don’t think you know the half of it.”
His eyes narrow slightly as he considers what is going on.
“As long as you grasp the situation that is building in this city you will be more than fine.”

She looks slightly confused for a moment.
"I know that things are coming to a head. I know that it's going to get dangerous soon. I know that alliances have been forged and broken beyond repair. Some of them are moving too quickly. They ruin my plans when they do that. Although how I am single-handedly responsible for everything that has happened, I do not know. I would seek your counsel on what's going on though..."

He smiles as he turns the desk light on.
“No you are not responsible for what is taking place in this city, just a player in it. Several individuals have placed pieces on the table without knowledge of their individuals actions. That has caused everything to seemingly come to a head, thanks to the actions of the caitiff it seems. But I believe we may be able to benefit from the coming chaos, as we should in a perfect world, though not quite everything will come out.”
He gets up and moves to the small alcove in the corner. He pulls out to glasses and two bottles. One with a dark red liquid inside, the others a lighter more delicate looking liquid. He holds them up, waiting for her to decide which she wants. Poring her a glass of her chosen, he pores one of the dark liquid for himself.

She selects the darker liquid as well and accepts her glass with a nod.
"Salute"

She takes a small sip and rolls her hands back and forth around the stem of the glass.
"With Menelaeus making an open statement, things will go even more quickly." she shakes her head. "I'm considering calling in an old favor... But I would need the book..."
She watches his face for his reaction.

Stan tips his glass with her. He nods as she mentions Menelaeus.
“Yes it is unfortunate that he seeks restitution for the events of the night. As of right now the only Elysium that still stands is the original to the city, interesting that the Sabbat have been involved in the desecration of both the one I declared and the one Laz declared. Perhaps those in the city will recognize this and move to inquire as to why these events seem to be repeating again.”
He raises his glass again as he sips, his eyes taking on an mournful set.
“I am going to try and help the Laz and Cocteau. I was present due to the direction of the prince at the meeting. The Sabbat violated the Elysium and were put down for attacking and killing the caitiff as well as assaulting the prince. That is excusable, and several Justicars would agree. The actions after word by Cocteau and myself are in more of a gray area. Cocteau, though his actions were justified did break the Elysium and technically the right of destruction, he will most likely be punished, though I would dough his death is likely and will be easily avoidable if he plays his cards right. My actions, though they did not break the Elysium as I received the princes blessing, were atrocious and I will make amends for that.
As for the book, why would that allow you to call in an old favor?”

She takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly. Her eyes wander to the window and she looks out.

"I want someone to look at it. Someone I think can give us a major breakthrough in deciphering the Seals."

Stan looks Maddy as if surprised by her timidness. He ketches her eyes and looks to the bookshelf directing her sight there, were the book has been sitting the entire time.

"If possible I would like to get the book back, as well as any important information your source can provide."
