(This should REALLY be a blog.)
Ok I’m doing this again to avoid the entire one on one inquiries for those that want to know. The surgery I had this Monday was a success…SORTA.
My philosophy on doctors, needles, and hospitals. Get it all done and right the first time. Don’t stretch it out. Combine crap if you can and get it over with. So I can get out of there and NOT come back. Kinda pisses me off that they do that, but I do my best to argue with them and nix that completely. Sometimes it works too. I’m their worst nightmare if they don’t listen to me. Most of you know that already if you’ve ever seen me in that situation.
I did some testing last Friday with that turned me into a radioactive Moose and created some pretty pictures of my kidneys to give to the doc Monday to look over, which he did. It showed one good kidney and one that was shrunk like a smaller prune. It was blocked. I was on time for this surgery, not worried about this, mentally prepped all the way. They did the strip gown thing making me wear these damn white panty hose like things. Circulation for the blood they said. They used a big IV needle on me. I told the nurse to get my mom from the waiting room for the needle part. My mom or any of my friends who can handle blood drawn CAN distract me from seeing it. The nurse thought I was bluffing or didn’t hear me I guess, so when I balled up my fist and drew it closer to her face when she tried it without my mom and with some other nurse I didn’t know, she stopped what she was doing and got her quick too. IV in. Prob solved. Moose happy.
The doc looked over the x-rays and did his usual “uhhuh. I see.” Schtick. So they wheeled me in to the operating room. I zoned out once they got me on the table. I woke up like 2-2 1/2 hours later in he same recovery room I was in. They had done a complete draining and cleaning of the blocked kidney and bladder areas using a Big catheter going you know where through my bladder up the pipeline to the kidney. They stressed infection on me several times. They did that with record time they said. I really don’t want to know how.
I wake up groggy just to see I’m fine overall. No pain, just a lil woozy and out of it. My hand hurts sometimes to type from the IV. Maybe another day or two on that one. It hurts to go but I have to keep flushing all that stuff out. But they did manage to get it all OUT. I have more energy now. Just have to take it slow, drink fluids and go when I have to. Still restricted on some things. I can’t drive now, but I can have a dew a day now (claps) twice if this works out, just no slamming them back to back. The doc said things should get back to normal for me in the next couple days, but NOT to push it.
Then he gave me some BAD NEWS. I have some permanent kidney damage. Plus to top it all off, another appointment with him this Friday to go over my recovery and everything. Hopefully it’s better by then. Worse case scenario he said, major Laparoscopic surgery (a modern surgical technique in which operations in the abdomen performed through small incisions. Think the thing with robot.) on the bad kidney. He’s old and retiring in 4 months so he wouldn’t be doing this operatiion. Some colleague of his who knows how to do it. I wasn’t thrilled about that even though I didn’t care for him and his methods either. So that’s where I stand now. I’m gonna push my potential surgery back to AFTER the Sat. July 10th game, then deal with and do it then. He says if it’s favorable, but his tones suggested otherwise, as he left me in the recovery room. But your guess is as good as mine at this point…at least till I see him again on Friday.
