Mayor Announces New Job creation Initiative. Lamar Morning Times 3-10-10

Mayor Gillespie called a press conference today unveiling a bold new plan put together by his office called “Hammers for Hands”. The Mayor stated a goal of a 50% reduction in homelessness in the Lamar Metro area. The plan will bring area public works, charitable organizations, and federal, state, and local welfare programs together under one banner to beautify and strengthen this jewel of the Midwest.

Sources within the Mayor’s Office claim that several charity organizations have already expressed interest in the program. Official project announcements will be forthcoming, following final approval of the program by the City Council.
