Riots explode in Lamar’s Old Town.

Anarchy erupted onto the streets of Lamar on Late Saturday, early Sunday morning as well over a hundred citizens poured out into the streets of Lamar’s Old Town district, and began to attack property, and other people. Lamar’s 5th Precinct Chief, Glenn Jackson confirmed that there were currently 6 people known to have been killed during the sudden riot, and 49 injured.

“We know that the first disturbances were called in just before Midnight, Saturday night, and continued well into early Sunday morning. In any situation involving the number of people we are seeing here, a clear cut cause is not always immediately apparent, but this is an on-going investigation, and all avenues are going to be pursued vigorously.”

Lamar has had to deal with its share of unrest in the “Pit” area near the Marshall Pitt projects, but this riot was unique in that it began in historic Old Town, a mostly wealthy and certainly Older neighborhood, and then marched *toward* the Pit doing several thousands of dollars worth of property damage along the way.

Lamar’s Mayor Daniel Gillespie has issued a petition to the Govenor’s office, requesting that the area be declared a Disaster Area, to make way for FEMA assistance.
