It is good to be the King, Of Lamar Missouri?
by April May
Rumor has it that a castle will be built the 25 acres, north of town in the Riverside area. This area had just been awarded a historically land grant. This is the area that once was the last holding area for cattle before the last drive to the Kansas City Stockyards. It was also used by the Confederate army, as a strong hold for meat warehousing and distribution center. There was talk about this castle to become a tourist destination but it will be a private residence in fact.
During the Civil War, it is well documented that the Lamar Stockyard received over 760,000 heads of cattle that were either moved to be sold for profit or butchered for food for the Southern soldiers. They also moved horses, mules and sheep though it. Before the war it was one of the stopping points for the Pony Express, until that company fall in October of 1861.
Not much is even known about the person building the castle. It is something that will bring some "GOOD PRESS" to this area.
