Wholesale Grocer’s Plant near Completion
By Kevin Lynn
Mayor Gillespie was in the industrial complex yesterday to preside over the ribbon cutting ceremony on the new Arcade Grocer’s Wholesalers plant here in Lamar. The new plant, constructed in just under a month, will be a shining example of Mayor Gillespie’s new Lamar Revitalization effort.

Mayor Gillespie had this to say. “Businesses such as this, connecting local production to local consumption, are what have traditionally made Jewels of the Heartland, like Lamar, so great. With over 200 jobs already lined up for the Labor Force of Lamar, Arcade Grocer’s Wholesalers is already putting both shoulders to the Wheel of Progress for our great city! It is, therefore, with great pride and anticipation that I declare the Arcade Grocer’s Wholesaler plant open for business, on this fifteenth of May, 2010!”

The building has 10 semi truck bays and over a dozen inspection stations for government and retailer inspection. The Arcade Grocer company says it hopes to be ready to begin connecting producers and retailers, at their max capacity, by the end of next week.

“Our goal is to link local producers with the retailers that are more than happy to bring their customers fresh, locally grown produce. Safety regulations make direct sales to the Retailers difficult and wasteful. Here at Arcade Wholesalers, we would like to help both sides meet in the middle, to get those farm fresh veggies, greens, and dairy products into the hands of the consumers that need them.”
