Killer cop sentenced Wednesday

Ex Vice Detective Terrence Lawson was sentenced today after several weeks of intense hearings regarding the character of both Mr. Lawson, and his victim, Tony Rodriguez, as well as testimony from Mr. Rodriguez’s family and friends.

Judge Morgan Stane sentenced Lawson to 25 years in a state penitentiary for the Murder 3 charge that Lawson plead guilty to early this month. Lawson stood quiet, head down as the charge and sentence was read during superior court yesterday.

The family of the victim has made several public calls for the death penalty for Mr. Lawson, and even made assertions that more of his crew should be brought on trial.

District Attorney Allen Parker stated “the evidence brought us to Mr. Lawson, and his conscience forced him to acknowledge his guilt in this matter. The State has rested it’s Case.”

Mayor Gillespie’s office stated only that they were glad to put this sad event in Lamar’s history behind them. The Office of the Police Chief had no comment.
