Brutal attack in Lamar claims several lives.
By Peter Martinez
As the sun rises on the stately buildings of Lamar’s oldest districts today, it’s skyline is marred with a column of smoke, remnants of a tragedy, the likes of which have been not seen in the four state area since the West Mineral Zinc mine massacre of 1909. Some time before midnight Saturday night, one or more groups of assailants barred the doors of the popular, upscale Club Indigo, locking themselves, and all those within for the duration of the brutal attack that followed. As of this writing, Lamar Emergency Services have pulled the bodies of Seventy-seven people from the hollowed wreckage that was once this bustling nighttime hot-spot, now turned smoldering abattoir.
Lamar Det. Terrence Lawson told reporters “Eyewitnesses reports are still being pieced together, but it seems that we have two, or possibly more, groups of assailants, with incendiaries and other weapons.”
“Someone was supposed to die tonight. I hope whomever was looking for blood got what they wanted, because when I find them, they’re going to pay for every drop.”
Detective Lawson was late of the Lamar Gang Task Force, but was promoted to Detective when that team was disbanded in 2008, a victim of the Task Force’s own success and a fiscal down year’s budget cuts. He will be joined on this case by Federal Agents Jeremiah Patterson of the FBI and Katherine Hollis of the DHS, whom are offering assistance as advisors for the duration of the case.
The owners of the bar were unavailable for comment, but Det Lawson insisted that they were fully cooperating with the Police investigation.
As of the writing of this article, the names of the victims have not been released, pending identification and notification of the victim’s families.
