The raccoon chitters at him curiously and defensively. Ayven can see it has a shiney metallic object in one hand. It hisses and then begins to scurry off into the residential area, looking back frequently to see if Ayven is following or not.

ayven tred lightly through the back alleys of the city the heavy white blanket keeping gaia in deep slumber. all was quiet except his labored breath and the crunch of his poorly protecting shoes. the cold air felt good on his face and head. he had hair back at least and that was good those first few days after he had returned from springfeild.
stopping at the intersection of the road and alley ayven caught sight of the tail of a black dog as it rounded a corner. was it his imagination ? he moved quickly losing much of his stealth as he rushed in a flurry of white but he had to be sure . as he rounded the corner he found himself facing a very stunned racoon. it was in its prime with a big bushy tail a steel grey probably the reason he had thought it a full black. maybe he was just seein shit...

Nikki Reynolds walks down a street in the town looking for a sign. What that sign was, she still didn't know.
Don't worry, they said, you'll find a sign that will help you know where you need to go. Damn Theurges and Galliards, they never give you a straight answer.
Adjusting her black woolen cap to cover her ears and tightening her long black winter coat, Nikki shoves her gloved hands into her pockets and looks around. Out of an alleyway in front of her, she sees a flash of movement and then a man come out. He pauses a moment and darts around a corner.
Well, that's interesting. Is that my sign or just some random crazy person?
Nikki lets out a huge sigh, her breath causing a cloud of white to obscure her vision. "I so do NOT want to do this." Her voice is quiet and solemn. She follows around the corner and sees the man and a raccoon. Nikki can see something shiny in the raccoon's hand.
"Oh my goodness!" Nikki's voice comes out louder than she expected. Flushing red, her face drops, but she glances up at the man and the raccoon afraid to take her eyes off either on now that she's made her presence known.

th bone gnawer watched the racoon deciding to follow and worry about his sanity some other day. looking around he spoke out in first tounge after the animal "brother racoon, what treasure have you found?" he loped lightly after the racoon like a curious canine.
not watching where he was going ayven almost ran into the woman accidentally. catching sight of her he tried to stop but the slush and snow had different ideas and when he wouldnt stop ayven skipped off to the side.
"sorry" was his only excuse as he looked back at her "you should come along and find out what brother racoon wishes to show us." with that he hurried after the animal wondering what was in store

Staring blankly at the back of the man that is loping after the raccoon, Nikki closes her eyes. "Yes, definately a sign. Sign I must be crazy." She follows the man and raccoon.
(OOC: Don't know what happened, but this is Starshine's entry. Oops.)

The raccoon chitters at both of them and turns to scurry off. He leads them down back alleys and yards until it reaches a tiny ramshackle house at the edge of town. The knee-high picket fence is freshly painted even though it is obvious many of the pickets are rotting. Despite the late hour there is a woman sitting in a rocking chair on the porch, bundled against the cold. She appears to be in her 80's at least and her body, what you can see of it, is frail, but there is a sparkle in her eyes that says she's very much aware and alert.
The woman coos at the raccoon, lowering a bony hand offering some kind of treat to it. It drops the shiney object on the blanket covering the woman's legs and grabs the treat, scampering off into the night.

ayven watched as the racoon dropped the item and scampered off. for some reason he knew that he didnt need to follow him anymore. as he opened the gate to the yard he called to the woman " its cold out here grandmother. are you ok? we followed your friend he seemed to know where we needed to be "

The old woman chuckles and nods. She does not seem to be bothered by the apparent rage coming from the two people almost in her yard.
"He brings me all sorts of things these days... Well come on in the yard and sit a spell. From the feel of you, we've got some talking to do."
She motions to the porch floor next to her as she smiles affectionately, looking for all the world like the friendliest grandmother ever.

he came up onto the porch sitting down on the edge of the old wood. " i worried there weren't any family in the city. but thats how it goes i guess." he wondered where the girl he had almost ran into went he was sure he felt the rage off her but didnt really know her.
he shook his head as he pullled out the old softpack shaking it for a few moments before pulling out a bent and malformed smoke. making sure it was ok before he lit it ( if she says yes he does so )

Nikki follows the man reluctantly into the old lady's yard. She stops at the edge of the porch and stands there silently. Her green eyes are downcast, except for the occasional glace at her surroundings. Her blond hair peeks out from under her cap.
