Parking her car outside the funeral home, Lydia smiles as she reaches for the package she brought for Mr. Fishburn. Walking in the front door she looks around to find someone to talk to. Finding someone "Hello, can you please tell Mr. Fishburn that Lydia Bates is here to see him."
Mr. Archer is working on some floral arrangements in the receiving area when Lydia arrives. "I will go fetch him for you, Lydia. I'm sure he'll want to see you right away."
After a few minutes, Mr. Fishburn arrives. He smiles at Lydia. "What an unexpected surprise!" Mr. Archer goes back to working on the arrangements.
Mr. Fishburn looks very surprised at the offer of a gift, and very happy once he opens it. "Mr. Poe is one of my favorites, Lydia. I think you're getting to know me very well! Would you care to join me for a bit or do you have other stops tonight?"
Lydia smiles "I think my stops for the evening have all been taken care of. I would be happy to join you. Thank you."
"Didn't you promise me some tales of a trip to the Mediterranean? Or was it somewhere else? I have never been there. I have never been outside of the States. Tell me what is it like?"
"It is very hot!" He laughs a little. "I went there to study death in its many different forms. It helped to establish my little business here. It's pretty funny who you can meet in what you believe is the middle of nowhere. Some of my specialized 'family' still resided there at the time of my last visit, as well as others who don't necessarily wish to be found."
"Yes, that's part of it. There's also the part after death, of course. Much to be learned there, if one but looks and listens. It hasn't been that long since I was there, by the way we record time, of course. And I've only met a very select few of my bloodline; we seemed to get along just fine."
"I know more than a mere conversation would allow for, Lydia. Some things, as you say, are no good, but others--well, others have their uses, and provide insights into possibilities that most people just wouldn't understand."
