Mackenzie was very happy as she made her rounds at the Park. There was a skip in her step and a smile plastered to her face. Is this real? I'd pinch myself, but I don't think it would help.
Mackenzie touches the small braid on her left side, thinking back to the previous evening. Nope, no dreaming. Shaking her head, she forced herself to focus on the task at hand. It was important with all the crazy stuff going on in the City, to remain vigilant.
We have quite a few new family, clanmates, in the area. I wonder if I'll run into any of them?
A.J. stood in the middle of a clearing in the woods, looking upward at the stars. He'd had a lot on his mind since the night Benjamin killed Horacio. Even more so since Corin didn't show up for Horacio's wake. One of the things that concerned him most was that Corin didn't show up for the wake and when he'd gone by her place, she was no where to be found. It was as if she had vanished without a trace. On top of it all, she couldn't help but feel like she had played him for a fool.
Mackenzie stops short when she sees A.J. in the clearing looking up at the stars. A wave of nostalgia washed over her at the memory of their first meeting.
So much has changed....and yet it is the same. I wonder if he's heard from Corin. She never did show to the wake.
Mackenzie continues into the clearing, "Hey, A.J. I hope I'm not interrupting."
A.J. turns his head from looking at the stars to Mackenzie. There is an obvious sadness in his eyes. The stone face that he showed at the wake long gone now. He nods respectfully to her and says, "Hello, Mackenzie. It's good to see you out patrolling like me, in these uncertain times. How are you this evening?"
Mackenzie takes a moment to evaluate how she really is. "It's no time to slack. She walks over to A.J. and stands near, but not touching. "It's been a crazy time recently hasn't it? I think I'm okay. Did you ever find Corin?" She looks very concerned.
A.J.'s demeanor shakes as she asks about Corin. There is an obvious hurt that deepens whe she mentions her name. He looks at her and says, "No, its as if she just disappeared into thin air. All of her belongings were at her place, no sign of a struggle, she was just not there."
"I am sorry." Mackenzie was worried about Corin, but also angry. It was hard to know if she was just coping in her own way or if something had happened to her. She hated to see the hurt on A.J.'s face. "Is there anything I can do?" As soon as it's out of her mouth, she shakes her head, knowing that there is probably nothing she can do.
A.J. slides his hands into his pockets. Curiously, he isn't wearing his usual long trench coast, instead just the jeans and t-shirt. He shrugs as she asks if she can help. He says quietly, "I just can't help but feel like I've been played a fool, or that she's missing and something happened to her."
Mackenzie is silent for a moment. "I wonder the same. Not about you particularly, but whether she was into something and the events that happened made her run." Her fists clench in anger. "But then I start thinking that something might have happened to her and no one knows where to find her."
Mackenzie shakes her head. "I want to believe she wouldn't have taken off willingly without saying something, even if she was worried about us tracking her. I'm not sure what to think."
A.J. looks at her and says, "Mackenzie, would you tell me everything you know about Meg. Horacio was worried Meg would come back and now that he is gone, I'm afraid exactly that might have happened."
