Maddalena was dressed in thick pants and a heavy shirt with sensible shoes for the terrain. She had either lost her coat or forgotten it completely when heading out. The snow glistened around her in the moonlight, casting those odd blue shadows that only snow can produce.
She stopped and looked at the shadow around her as if she expected someone to step out of them at any moment, mumbling to herself, then nodding as if satisfied.
Her steps were loud and unnatural as she was not used to this kind of trek. Her talk with Kendov had gotten her to thinking. Why couldn't she go walk her city? Why shouldn't she know every inch of her city? How could she rule it if she did not know it? So here she was, tromping around in the snow like a child, looking for something she knew she would not find...
