((oc: I know this is short notice and I failed epic to get this started the other day but maybe we can manage to push this out anyway. Premise for this thread - to keep us on topic - is naming our pack, purpose and deciding on a totem to petition.
that would be VERY helpful in getting this wrapped up by Vision Con.
- If, at the end of your posts, you could put
- an oc note on your preference for totems
- what stats that totem has
- any other reasons why you support that totem
PS: I know that I'm going to say obvious stuff here in this first post - I ask that experienced players and characters don't get offended. Jim and Tina are both new to Garou and while I know they have read some of the material maybe some of what I'm about to say could be helpful so please cut my pc some slack, she's not trying to be a know it all ass, I'm trying to bring them oocly up to speed with an ic post. Thanks! -Dee))
Tala called her pack together and looked each one over carefully. Smiling she addressed the group. "I don't think I need to tell you Donovan-yuf or my Beta here about what makes a pack so vital but, just in case your den mothers were lax in their duties... I'll repeat the obvious for Brigit, Shadow, and Cameron."
Tala settles down under a big oak tree and folds her legs 'indian-style' and waits for everyone else to settle in as well. "Since the beginning of time the Pack has defined us as a people. No human can run as fast or as far as us, no wolf can enter the spirit as we or stand up the rigors we must endure. Alone we are hard creatures," Tala produces a beautiful glass rod and passes it around to each person and when it comes back to her she finishes, "but even what is hard can be broken." She shatters the glass sending shards all over the earth in front of her.
"Together though," She pulls out six glass rods and ties them together, demonstrating how hard it is to break them together and then passes them around to each packmember in turn. "...we can help one another to face that which would break us... face impossible odds, console and empathize with one another when we must confront things which no human or wolf should ever have to know. The pack is your family, it is your friends, your moral compass and best therapist." She chuckles.
"When no one and nothing is left in this world worth living for... your pack will be there. When all seems lost and hopeless... and there will be moments like that in our war... it is your pack that will save your life and your soul." Her expression says she knows all too well that this is true. Her blue eyes confess that she has felt this pain more than once.
She looks to Brigit, as though she expects that this most helps the cub. "A pack isn't just held together by our need for companionship though. Our purpose drives us and our totem guides us. The totem of a pack is it's patron... we grant this guiding spirit strength from spiritual selves and in turn it grants us gifts and wisdom in times of need. We have committed to becoming a pack - now we must discuss and choose not only a totem to petition for patronage BUT, a purpose that our pack will strive to fulfill."
"Again I put forth that I believe Owl to be an apt choice for our patron. We are pack, for the most part, of individuals who put wisdom above brut strength ... the noble judge," she motions to Don. "... the witty scout." She motions to Shadow, "... the wizened shaman" and brings a hand to her own chest, "... the worldly storyteller."
She looks to Cameron, "I do not know as much about you as I'd like Cameron but if this assembled group of esteemed Garou think highly enough of you to include you in our pack... then I am willing to bet that even your rage is guided by a fair amount of respect for the wisdom of others."
Looking to Brigit with a compassionate motherly grin, "Young cub... while you have no standing and no place in our pack at this time, know that I'm not excluding you on purpose. In time, when you have finished your rite of passage, perhaps you will come to us and our totem and seek a place at our fire. When you do, if you do, you will know very well what to expect among us. Please, learn what you can from these discussions."
(( Casting my vote for Owl - Jon could you post it's boons and bans and such. Thanks so very much. ))

Sam nods as Tala speaks.
"I will speak up, for the wisdom of Owl. Owl watches and strikes silently. He holds the hidden wisdom, and inspires his favored children to do the same. He flies with death even into the Dark Umbra. He soars high, and his shadow glides silently over the land. If we seek to enter and leave a place, silently, gaining it's wisdom before we leave, Owl should be our guide."
(OOC Background Cost: 6 Traits
Traits: Each pack member gains wings in the Umbra, and a two-Trait bonus to challenges involving stealth, silence and quiet and a three-Trait bonus on challenges to use Gifts involving air, travel, movement or darkness. Each pack member gains two Wisdom. Silent Striders may mysteriously appear to aid an Owl pack in danger; Ratkin and other followers of Rat are particularly hostile to Owl.
Ban: Owl requires that the pack leave small rodents in the wood for him and his
children.))
